Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA)

Founded in 1979, PLMA today represents more than 2,500 member companies worldwide including manufacturers, suppliers and brokers who are involved in the production and marketing of private label. The products supplied by PLMA member manufacturers range from fresh, frozen and refrigerated foods, snacks and shelf-stable groceries, to health and beauty, household and kitchen products, paper and plastics, general merchandise, consumer electronics, home/office and DIY.

PLMA member manufacturers can be described as fitting within four general classifications:

Large national brand producers that utilize their expertise and excess plant capacity for private label products;

Small, quality manufacturers that specialize in particular product lines and concentrate almost exclusively on producing private label - often these companies are owned by corporations that also produce national brands;

Major retail and wholesale chains that own their own manufacturing facilities and that produce private label products for themselves and others;

Regional brand manufacturers that produce private label products for specific markets.
